Today:
Group 01 - We reviewed what you already knew about your Multiple Intelligences. However, in all situations, you were encouraged to use your other abilities and invent ways to accommodate yourself. In the end, we discussed how each of you was able to use available abilities to meet the same needs you would have regularly otherwise. Way to think outside the box! Those activities should now be in your "Skills/Abilities" section of your POP Binders.

1) We went to the VCN room and checked out the outstanding online resource, http://www.careercruising.com/. (Ask me for the username and password.)

Did you lead and direct more? Did you listen and support more? Did you do both? What did that activity show you about yourself synergizing?
If you missed class: Please copy the missed Career Cruising notes from a friend before next class.
Next class Tuesday, September 22 (Day 5): Please bring the assignment you wrote up in class today because you will need it to do the activity. Have a good weekend.

You should be looking for a person to job shadow on November 4. Scroll down to the bottom of this page for more information.
3RD CLASS - GROUP 02 - CAREERS AND YOU
Today we: Played the second game using the career cards. You now should have a list of highlighted careers of interest to use as starting points for upcoming career explorations. Isn't it interesting that the majority of interests are in the Culture Family? Thanks for organizing your decks when finished.
If you missed class: People in pairs each took turns as a leader and follower. Leaders went through the deck and guessed if the follower would like or not like each career and discussed why. Followers responded to that guess, and justified why or why not. The back of the cards were read to understand careers more. Followers then highlighted the careers of interest on their sheets. The roles were then switched. You will need to see me ASAP to catch up on the activity before next class.
Next class September 10 (Day 10): Remember your POP binder. It needs to be a separate binder that will be left in class. We will be focusing on self.

1ST CLASS - GROUP 02 - COURSE INTRODUCTION
Welcome to POP! Today was an intoduction to the course and POP Lab... mentors, careercruising.com, job shadowing, tool kits, and career day were key points that you should now briefly know and be able to tell another person about. If you missed today, see me for the outline... and if you can, ask another person in class about the above points before then.
Next class (Tuesday, September 8 - Day 5) we will be joined by guest speaker Mrs. D. Hostetler, our veteran guidance counselor. There are millions of careers out there... how are they all organized? It's as simple as finding your favorite CD at Archambault or the chocolate covered almonds at Provigo... stay tuned for Career Families! Also, what careers interest you? We'll be exploring that as well, but keep it in mind until then.
Reminder: I trust your course outline will be signed and your homework question (WHAT'S COMING UP IN NOVEMBER?) will be finished when I check them the beginning of class. In the meantime, if you would like to check out http://www.careercruising.com/ early, go for it! Ask me for the username and password.

1ST JOB SHADOW - WEDNESDAY, NOV. 4 (DAY 3) - ALL DAY
Mark your calendars now. The Take Our Teens To Work Day will be here sooner than we expect! It's technically "kids" in the name, but POP students last year made it clear you are no longer that. Now is the time to start thinking about who you would like to job shadow all day. As your first job shadow, it is usually with your parent/guardian, but can also be with another family member, family friend, or neighbour who your parent/guardian is okay about you going with. More information will follow in the next month, but feel free to click on the purple link above. If you do, keep in mind you do not have to register online; I will take care of that for the classes.
